Introduction:
As speech-language pathologists are moving towards incorporating standard protocols for videofluoroscopic swallow studies (VFSS), there has been a growing discussion around differing practice methods between SLPs and radiologists. In fact, a recent survey administered to radiologists and SLPs identified statistically significant differences in practice beliefs and methodology surrounding VFSS between the two disciplines, including agreement on frame rate (Hermann et al., 2020). A staple component of standard VFSS protocols is utilizing 30 frames per second (fps) during fluoroscopy. It has been discovered that reducing frame rate to 15fps or less results in degraded diagnostic accuracy (Bonilha et al., 2019).
