PACE is a conversation-based approach to improve communication in persons with aphasia (PWA; Wilcox and Davis, 1985). The goal of PACE is to promote the successful exchange of information between a PWA and clinician with whatever means possible; therefore, PACE allows the PWA to select a communication modality that allows him/her to successfully convey a message. Research has shown that post-PACE treatment, short-term gains in trained item naming are possible (Kurland, Baldwin, & Tauer, 2010). The purpose of this resource is to provide information to incorporate PACE into therapy sessions, including principles of treatment, potential candidates, goals, execution, and measuring progress.
