Introduction:

How do you make decisions? If you don’t have a response to this question, don’t worry, you will once you’ve finished this resource. Ideally, the SLP should consistently make rational decisions. Except the research tells us that our decision-making is inconsistent and often inaccurate, particularly as it pertains to dysphagia management (Moss et al., 2020; Ramsey et al., 2003; Vose et al., 2018). Often, poor decision-making can be attributed to cognitive bias (cultural bias may also play a role) and inexperience (Borstein & Emler, 2008; Crebbin, 2013; Featherstone et al., 2020; Ginsberg et al., 2016; Kahneman, 2013; Kohn et al., 2009; Mezzio et al., 2018).
