  • Identify why dysphagia often occurs in patients with tracheostomy tubes  

  • Describe what factors are taken into consideration when the medical team is considering tracheostomy weaning  

  • Describe factors related to tracheostomy modifications and how they may directly impact swallow function.

  • Minutes 0-5: Introduction of topic, articles being covered, and presenters

  •  Minutes 5-15: An overview of dysphagia in patients with tracheostomy tubes as it relates to the medical SLP

  • Minutes 15-58: Educational dialogue regarding tracheostomy weaning and dysphagia along with Q and A

  • Minutes 58-60: Conclusionary information

Speaker Information and Disclosures:

Jessica Hill is a Speech-Language Pathologist who practices in Phoenix, Arizona. She has worked in a variety of settings including several trach/vent hospitals and rehabilitation centers, acute care hospitals and skilled nursing facilities. She is passionate about dysphagia, high-quality patient care, and advocating for the needs of her patients.

Jessica Lasky is a medical Speech-Language Pathologist that specializes in dysphagia and the adult and geriatric populations. Jessica has worked in nearly every setting possible from outpatient neuro rehabilitation, stroke, and trauma 1 hospitals, acute rehab facilities, and SNFs.
