George Barnes MS, CCC-SLP, BCS-S is a Board Certified Specialist in swallowing and swallowing disorders who has developed an expertise in dysphagia management focusing on diagnostics and clinical decision-making in the medically complex population. He co-founded FEESible Swallow Solutions to expand access to high-quality dysphagia services and provide Med SLP coaching to SLPs seeking to be more successful in the field. Kelly Salmon SLPD, CCC-SLP, BCS-S, CLT-LANA, NDC is a speech-language pathologist specializing in the treatment of adults with communication and swallowing disorders across the continuum of care. She has been a Board-Certified Specialist in Swallowing and Swallowing Disorders (BCS-S) since 2011 and earned designation in 2014 as a Lymphology Association of North America Certified Lymphedema Therapist (CLT-LANA) specializing in the treatment of head and neck lymphedema. Over the course of her career, Kelly has focused on becoming an expert in the treatment of swallowing disorders resulting from many medical conditions including head and neck cancer, stroke, and progressive disease. The use of modalities and device-driven treatments for dysphagia as well as oncology rehabilitation, including rehabilitation post-total laryngectomy, have become focused areas of clinical practice for Kelly over the years. Kelly takes pride in contributing to the field of speech-language pathology through teaching and supervising graduate-level students, presenting posters and lectures at national conferences, and engaging in multidisciplinary research initiatives. She has recently transitioned from full-time clinical practice to the academic setting as an Assistant Professor at Salus University in Elkins Park, Pennsylvania. She also maintains a small clinical private practice and a medical speech pathology consulting business.

Nicole Langton-Frost M.A. CCC-SLP, BCS-S is a speech language pathologist with 12 years of experience in a variety of medical settings. She has spent the past 9 years in the acute care setting with 4 of those years as the team coordinator for neurosciences and stroke therapy teams and the past 3 years as the supervisor for acute care PT/OT/SLP. Brittany Krekeler PhD CCC-SLP is an assistant professor and clinician-scientist at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine in the Department of Otolaryngology -Head and Neck Surgery with a secondary faculty appointment in the Department of Neurology and Rehabilitation Medicine. She received her master’s degree and doctoral degree in Communication and Sciences Disorders at the University of Wisconsin Madison. She completed her post-doctoral fellowship at Northwestern University. Dr Krekeler’s research interests center around developing novel behavioral and exercise-based interventions to improve swallowing ability and quality of life for individuals with dysphagia. Her training in both basic and clinical-translational science sparked her interest in digging deeper to better understanding the role and applications of exercise and skilled-motor learning in dysphagia rehabilitation.

Mattie Murrey Tegels, MA, CCC-SLP is an educator, speaker, consultant, author, and podcaster. She received her Master of Arts degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Washington State University and has spent more than 25 years working around the world as a medical SLP in a variety of settings. She has mentored and supervised over 200 students and CFs, and has completed almost 25,000 1:1 hours of skilled intervention. Mattie is a member of SIG 3, 13, and 18 and has presented at both state-level and national-level speaking engagements and has also been a guest speaker at both master-level and doctorate-level courses on topics such as aphasia, dysphagia, voice disorders, and counseling. She now lives in Minnesota and is a college professor and clinical supervisor for a CSD graduate program and works almost exclusively with students. She is also the MNSHA Future Professionals Committee Advisor, responsible for supporting the needs of graduate and undergraduate SLPs at her state level. When she is not writing or podcasting, she enjoys spending time with her family, hiking, camping, traveling and riding big motorcycles.

Faith Purnell, MS, CCC-SLP is an alumna of ASHA’s Minority Student Leadership Program (MSLP) Class of 2010 and graduated from Portland State University (PSU) in 2013. As a full-time Speech-Language Pathologist and Clinical Supervisor at the Portland VA Medical Center, she works across the continuum of care from critical care to outpatient, including the ALS Multidisciplinary Clinic. Eric Blicker CCC-SLP.D BCS-S is a board certified specialist in swallowing disorders since 2008. Eric received his doctoral degree from Nova Southeastern University in 2008 and was trained in Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing with Sensory Testing (FEESST) by Dr. Jonathan Aviv, the otolaryngologist who developed FEESST in 2000-2001 at Columbia University. Eric has started multiple Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES) programs throughout the country while training speech-language pathologists and physicians in the process since 2001. His clinical FEES experience includes working in long term acute care, inpatient acute care, outpatient hospital, skilled nursing facility, outpatient physician offices.

Kendrea L. (Focht) Garand, PhD, CScD, CCC-SLP, BCS-S, CBIS, CCRE is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Speech Pathology and Audiology in the College of Allied Health Professions at the University of South Alabama. She is the Founder and Principal Investigator of the Swallowing Disorders Initiative (SDI) Research Laboratory, serves as the Program Coordinator for the PhD in Communication Sciences and Disorders, and she also holds an adjunct appointment with the Department of Neurology in the College of Medicine. She is currently Editor of Perspectives for SIG 13 (Swallowing and Swallowing Disorders) and Vice Chairperson of the American Board of Swallowing and Swallowing Disorders (ABSSD). Her primary research interests include the impact of aging and motor neuron disease on swallowing function. Her work has been funded through the Veterans Affairs, ASHFoundation, and the University of South Alabama. You may find some of her scholarly contributions in Dysphagia, American Journal of Speech-Language Pathology, and Annals of Otology, Rhinology, and Laryngology. Lastly, she continues to provide clinical services to patients as an outpatient clinical supervisor for graduate students in speech-language pathology in the University-affiliated Speech and Hearing Center.
