Speaker Information and Disclosures

Lysa Johnson received her Master’s Degree in Communication Science and Disorders from the University of Minnesota- Duluth. She is a Speech Language Pathologist (SLP), Clinical Mentor and Rehabilitation Program Development Specialist. Mrs. Johnson holds ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence, is a member of ASHA Special Interest Group 13 (Swallowing and Swallowing Disorders), a member of the Twin Cities Speech Language Pathology Organization, MedSLP Mentor and has fifteen years’ experience as an SLP. She is a certified Dementia Capable Care Trainer, Positive Approach to Care Dementia Educator and Alzheimer’s outreach Mentor. Ms. Johnson sits on the Leadership and Corporate sponsors board for Dementia Action Alliance, the ‘Evidence based practices' committee for Faith Community Nurse Network and is a collaborative program partner for ACP and ICAA. Her clinical focus includes work with sub-acute care facilities, transitional care units, rehab and skilled nursing facilities, home health and outpatient clinics focusing on interdisciplinary program development, CMS regulations and requirements across care settings, patient and clinician education. Ms. Johnson spends her free time with her family, enjoys coaching curling and can almost always be found with a coffee in her hand.

Kelly Caldwell is a Speech-Language Pathologist at a Voice Clinic in Anderson, SC. She earned her Master of Arts in Teaching- Music Education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Master of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders degree from East Carolina University. Clinical interests include functional dysphagia, dysphonia, and upper airway disorders. Outside of the clinic, Kelly is a mentor for the Med SLP Collective and has presented in medical SLP conferences both in-person and online. She is currently serving SCSHA as the Vice President of Government Affairs and recently served as a reimbursement expert for the ASHA STARs, which means when she’s not looking up advanced techniques in voice and swallowing, she is a policy and reimbursement guru working toward professional sustainability.

Theresa Richard, M.A., CCC-SLP, BCS-S is a medical speech-language pathologist and Board Certified Specialist in Swallowing and Swallowing Disorders. While owning and operating a mobile FEES business, she discovered a gap in the clinical knowledge of medical SLPs. She created the Swallow Your Pride podcast which debuted at #11 on the Science and Medicine chart and currently has over 3 million downloads. She has been an invited keynote speaker for several conventions, has served as President of the Nevada Speech & Hearing Association, and has been featured in Authority Magazine, Medium, and Thrive Global.

Theresa continues to work tirelessly to advocate for patients with swallowing disorders and was invited to contribute to 2 papers for the Dysphagia journal on assessing and treating dysphagia during COVID. The recent release of her new book for patients with dysphagia called “So You’re Having Trouble Swallowing,” is an Amazon and Barnes & Noble best seller.  Theresa is the founder and CEO of the Medical SLP Collective which currently has over 6,000 members to provide editorial-reviewed resources, webinars for ASHA CEUs, and mentorship. She also created MedSLP Education which provides solid foundational medical courses exclusively for SLPs and a Medical SLP Certification program.
