Speaker Information and Disclosures

Ramya Kumar is a Speech Language Pathologist specializing in infant and pediatric feeding difficulties. She has worked in outpatient, inpatient rehab and acute care settings. She currently works in a Level III NICU and a local pediatrician's office in Arizona. Ramya is a Board Certified Specialist in Swallowing and Swallowing Disorders (BCS-S), a Certified Neonatal Therapist (CNT) and an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). She has also received the Neonatal Developmental Care Specialist designation by the National Association for Neonatal Nurses and is certified in Neonatal Touch and Massage.

Ramya has presented at the local, state and national level on topics related to pediatric feeding disorders and neurodevelopmental care practices.

Ramya’s patient care philosophy is deeply rooted in the belief that every patient – no matter how small – has a voice; and that families should be empowered to be active participants in their care plan.

  • 10-20 minutes: 8:40 PM- 8:50 PM: American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and World Health Organization (WHO) breastfeeding recommendations, factors impacting breastfeeding outcomes
  • 20-50 minutes:  8:50 PM – 9:20 PM: Anatomy and physiology of breastfeeding, stages of milk production and maintenance
  • 50-70 minutes:  9:20 PM – 9:40 PM: Factors impacting latch and milk extraction, and treatment considerations for this
  • 70-85 minutes: Bottle feeding strategies that support breastfeeding
  • 85-100 minutes: Considerations when conducting instrumental evaluations for breastfeeding infants
  • 100-105 minutes: Pathways to gain more lactation specific education
  • 105-120 minutes: Q&A
