  • Learners will list uses of social media by public and professionals alike in a healthcare context.
  • Learners will describe strategies to maintain a professional platform on social media.

Speaker Information and Disclosures

Sara Newman, MA MSHA CCC-SLP is an acute care SLP in Dallas, TX. She has specialized in working with tracheostomy and ventilator-dependent patients, serving as the lead SLP on the multidisciplinary tracheostomy team at a large academic medical center and presenting on the role of SLP in multidisciplinary collaboration at the state and national level. A 2020 ASHA Distinguished Early Career Professional and ACE Award recipient, Sara recently completed her Masters of Healthcare Administration from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center and is pursuing her passion of increasing access and accountability in the field of speech-language pathology. Amanda Weissberg is a speech-language pathologist (SLP) who graduated with her Bachelor’s and Master’s from California State University, Northridge in Los Angeles. She has worked for the last four years across the continuum from a skilled nursing facility, sub-acute facility, outpatient, acute rehab, and inpatient/critical care settings. She currently works per-diem at two acute care hospitals in Dallas, Texas. She is an ASHA ACE Award recipient per her drive and motivation for continuing education to stay up to date with evidence-based practice. You can listen to her guest podcast episodes on Swallow Your Pride, Sunshine Speechie, Speech Corner, and Let’s Taco Bout Speech. Amanda is a Med SLP Collective affiliate and has created content and educational materials (i.e., resources, Summit presenter) for the organization. Additionally, she created the Instagram platform, @millennialmedslp to help spread evidence-based practice, education, and to continue her own growth. When she isn’t being an SLP, she is laughing, cuddling, and loving with her husband and little girl.
