Course Agenda

  • Introduction

  • 0-10 minutes: Quality of life- definitions, considerations, implications for the medical provider

  • 10-30 minutes: Dysphagia's Impact on quality of life/using patient reported outcome measures to assess impact on quality of life

  • 30-45 minutes: The complexities of dysphagia decision making

  • 45-70 minutes: Goals of care- discussion, components, gaps in knowledge and understanding, importance of palliative care

  • 70-90 minutes: Resources available to you

  • 90-105 minutes: Brining it all together- one word: TEAMWORK

  • 105-120 minutes: Q&As

Speaker Information and Disclosures

Emily Tricarico Wilkinson; M.A., CCC-SLP, is a medical Speech Language Pathologist. She is the lead SLP at Mount Sinai Brooklyn and a per diem SLP at NYU Langone Orthopedic Hospital/Rusk Rehabilitation.

Emily received her Bachelor in Science degree in Early Childhood Education with a focus on Behavioral Studies. She received her Master of Arts degree in Speech Language Pathology from Long Island University- C.W. Post.

Emily is a two time presenter at the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association Convention and a two time guest speaker on the dysphagia podcast Swallow Your Pride. She frequently guest lectures at graduate SLP programs about medical Speech Language Pathology, FEES, the importance of instrumental assessments of swallowing, and acute care. Emily is The Director of Corporate Outreach for The Dysphagia Outreach Project.

FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE:

Emily receives payment for her job as a Speech Language Pathologist from her hospital-based jobs. She receives honorariums for guest lectures. She is compensated for the presentations she submits to educational platforms.
