  • Explain different evidence-based  treatments to reduce orally aversive behaviors
  • Describe the role of the speech-language pathologist (SLP) in the treatment of infant feeding

Course Agenda

  • Minutes 0-5: Introduction of a topic, articles being covered, and presenters
  • Minutes 5-15: An overview of oral aversion in infants with congenital heart disease
  • Minutes 15-58: Educational dialogue regarding treatments and need for exposure to oral intake in infants who are chronically ill along with Q and A
  • Minutes 58-60: Conclusionary information

Speaker Information and Disclosures

Raquel Garcia is a trained craniofacial and feeding specialist who has worked in infant critical care units for over 10 years. She has lectured at the national and state level on pediatric feeding disorders. She graduated with her M.S. in communication disorders from Nova Southeastern University and her doctorate of speech-language pathology from Northwestern University. Her clinical interests include neonatal care, congenital heart disease, upper airway disorders, infant FEES, parent/baby dyad, and parental health literacy.

Jessica Lasky is a medical Speech-Language Pathologist that specializes in dysphagia and the adult and geriatric populations. Jessica has worked in nearly every setting possible from outpatient neuro rehabilitation, stroke, and trauma 1 hospitals, acute rehab facilities, and SNFs.
