After this journal club, you will be able to…

  • Identify three cognitive functions often impacted by Parkinson's Disease (PD)

  • Identify three brain centers that are often impacted by PD and thought to be correlated to associated cognitive impairments. 

  • Describe clinical practice patterns of speech-language pathologists who work with patients diagnosed with PD.

Course Agenda

  • 0-5 MINUTES: Introduction of topic, articles being covered, and presenters

  • 5-20 MINUTES: An overview of Parkinson's Disease, associated cognitive impairments and decline as well as evidence-based interventions as they relate to the medical SLP

  • 20-58 MINUTES: Educational dialogue regarding therapeutic interventions along with Q and A

  • 58-60 MINUTES: Conclusionary information

Speaker Information and Disclosures:

Fred Stahl, MS, CCC-SLP

Fred Stal is a speech language pathologist at Cleveland Clinic Rehabilitation Hospital, currently working in the acute rehab setting.
Originally from New York, Fred now resides in Cleveland Ohio. He also volunteers his time as the Director of Advocacy for the Dysphagia Outreach Project.  Fred has a keen interest in clinical research, voice, swallowing, airway management, medically complex populations – particularly head and neck cancer and total laryngectomy patients, voice restoration, swallow rehabilitation, and advocacy for this population of patients. He recently co-authored a research paper at his facility, looking at executive function, frontal lobe processing, and cognitive aspects in relation to fall risk.

Jessica Lasky, MS, CCC-SLP, BCS-S

 

Jessica Lasky is a medical Speech-Language Pathologist that specializes in dysphagia and the adult and geriatric populations. Jessica has worked in nearly every setting possible from outpatient neuro rehabilitation, stroke, and trauma 1 hospitals, acute rehab facilities, and SNFs.

FINANCIAL DISCLOSURES:
