  • Identify how aphasia impacts conversation and what measurement exist for assessment.

  • Identify three measures being used to assess conversation for patients impacted by aphasia

  • Describe clinical practice patterns of speech-language pathologists who work with patients diagnosed with aphasia

Course Agenda

  • 0-5 MINUTES: Introduction of topic, articles being covered, and presenters

  • 5-20 MINUTES: An overview of aphasia and conversational assessments as they relate to the medical SLP

  • 20-58 MINUTES:  Educational dialogue regarding aphasia treatment and assessment options on conversation skills along with Q+A

  • 58-60 MINUTES:  Conclusionary information

Speaker Information and Disclosures:

Maura English Silverman, MS, CCC/SLP

Maura English Silverman, MS, CCC/SLP is the Founder of the Triangle Aphasia Project Unlimited (TAP). Following 18 years of service as Executive Director, Maura now serves as Director of Clinical Services at TAP. Maura is passionate about helping individuals find their potential and is committed to the Life Participation Approach to Aphasia. She is a Founding member of Aphasia Access and the recipient of the Inaugural Innovator Award, Triangle Business Journal’s Healthcare Hero and ASA’s RAISE award. Maura has cherished the opportunity to publish, present and serve on national and international professional forums. She treasures the individuals and families she serves and emphasizes community engagement through collaboration.

Jessica Lasky, MS, CCC-SLP, BCS-S

 

Jessica Lasky is a medical Speech-Language Pathologist that specializes in dysphagia and the adult and geriatric populations. Jessica has worked in nearly every setting possible from outpatient neuro rehabilitation, stroke, and trauma 1 hospitals, acute rehab facilities, and SNFs.

FINANCIAL DISCLOSURES:

Jessica receives a salary from Mobile Scope, Neuro RehabCare, the MedSLP Collective, and Evolutionary Education Solutions. She also receives a consulting fee from the MedSLP Collective.
